Digimon Adventure

Ok since I haven't done one of these in a while please excuse me if this review is convoluted and confusing at parts. Oh and welcome to The S-My-Q's fuckin anime reviews blog.

Synopsis: Seven kids are going to summer camp when these weird devices (digivices) appear before them and they are transported to an alternate dimension called the digital world. Hear each kid is paired up with a Digimon partner a strange creature with the power to evolve in to a higher form of its self, with the power of the digivice they are able to eventually unlock there true potential. Together the kids and their digimon go on a journey finding out a lot about themselves and their digimon, there adventure eventually has them fighting to save not only the digital world but earth as well.

Characters:

-Taichi Yagami, he is pretty much the main character of the show, he is a very head strong and determined person, but at times he can be mean and impulsive which gets him in to a lot of danger. Throughout the series he becomes essentially the leader of the DigiDestined team and everybody puts a lot of hope in him. His digimon partner is Agumon a small dinosaur digimon who evolves in to Greymon and then MetalGreymon and eventually to his most powerful form WarGreymon.

-Hikari Yagami she is Taichi’s younger sister who in the real world is able to see digimon unlike most people. In the digital world she is able to hear the voice of digital world and is sometimes possessed by it so that it can talk to the other DigiDestined. Her digimon partner is Tailmon a cat type digimon who we learn was separated from the other digimon at the beginning of the story, everybody thinks she is a bad digimon at 1^st, working for Vamdemon, but she was actually held captive by him when she was on her search to find Hikari, she is able to digivolve in to angewomon and angelic type digimon.

-Yamato Ishida, he is seen to be the lone wolf of the group though he is essentially the secondary leader of it as well. He has inner struggles finding out who he is and struggles with realizing that his kid brother is growing up before his eyes and doesn't need to be protected by him like he used to. His digimon partner is Gabumon who is able to evolve in to WereGarurumon to MetalGarurumon his ultimate form WarGreymon.

-Takeru Takaishi, he is Yamato’s younger brother he has a different last name because of his parents’ divorce. He is at 1st a sort of crybaby character, but throughout the story with his digimon partner Patamon becomes a stronger willed individual. Patamon his partner is a smallish digimon who can fly using his ears that are shaped kina like bat wings, he was the last of the digimon partners to evolve for the 1st time, but was the most powerful being so powerful he died but was revived in a digiegg and eventually hatched and revolved in to Patamon again with the help of Takeru’s love and support.

-Koushiro Izumi, he is probably the smartest out of the group a person who loves to learn everything about life, he is also a computer nerd and uses his laptop a lot to help the group out. His digimon partner is Tentomon a digital bug type digimon, who evolves in to Kabuterimon and then ultra Kabuterimon.

-Sora Takenouchi, she is a motherly type person trying to take care of everybody and keep their spirits up even if hers are way down. She is paired up with the digimon Piyomon a small bird type digimon who is able to evolve in to Birdramon and later able to evolve in to Gurdramon.

-Mimi Tachikawa, sort of a spoiled child she has a loving personality though and is very loyal to her friends though she can be condescending at times. In the story she is usually hit on and asked if she wants to go on a date by many dirty digimon especially the digimon based on shit( yes a turd digimon). Her partner is palmon a small plant type digimon who evolves in to a big fighting cactus digimon and then evolves in to lillymon a sort of plant fairy digimon.

- Jyou Kido, he is the oldest of the group he is somewhat of a over thinker or somebody who worries all the time, he is usually the voice of reason in the group or at least he tries to be, he struggles with studying all the time because his father thinks he should be a doctor, but eventually realizes that he should walk his own path in life. His digimon partner is Gomamon a seal type digimon who evolves in to ikkaumon a big hairy walrus type digimon and then in to zudomon a more buffed up walrus with the power of thunder.

- I know I didn't say much about the characters, but they each do have a lot of development throughout the series and they seemed like a cool bunch, none being really plain or anything so I'll give this section 9.5/10

Story:

 At the beginning of the story well more like after some traveling and training they have to fight and defeat devimon an evil digimon who can control other digimon with the power of his black gears, after the fight is over a hologram of an old man appears who tells them that they are the DigiDestined or chosen children who were picked because of their special bond with digimon, he also tells them about crests they need to find in order for there digimon to evolve to the next level. While searching for the crests a new enemy appears Etemon a monkey type digimon who is now trying to take over the digital world. They find there crests and are able to defeat him, Agumon is finally able to evolve past Greymon in to MetalGreymon and uses his finishing movie to kill Etemon, they defeat him but somehow Greymon’s move causes a portal of sorts to appear and Taichi and Greymon are transported back to earth, tho they don't realize it at the time, that is until Taichi decides to go to his apartment and see if it really is his house, it is and hear he finds out that not a day has passed on earth even though it seemed like they were in the digital world for months or maybe even a year, he also discovers that his sister Hikari knows who koromon is (which is foreshadowing to stuff that happens later). Taichi is about to come to the conclusion that he doesn't even want to keep fighting or go back to the digital world and is about to throw down is digivice in frustration when all of a sudden a digimon starts attacking the town right down the road from his apartment. Taichi agumon and Hikari all go outside to investigate and the digimon fades away, then they see another digimon so they run towards it but right b4 they get to it also disappears. Then Ogremon shows up and starts attacking koromon, but with the power of the digivice a portal opens up in the sky and augumon hits Ogremon with a fireball and sends him in it, then augumon starts to be teleported by it so taichi decides to go back to the digital world. When they get back to the digital word Taichi’s digivice starts beeping and shows a dot on the screen so he and augumon hed in the direction of it to see what is up. When they get to the spot they find tokomon there, he tells them what happened while they were gone: Everybody went and looked for them for a month or so and when they couldn't find then they decided to split up and see if they could find any clues as to what was going on. It is revealed to us that Yomoto told Tokkaru that he was going to go explore this place by where they were and would be right black, but he doesn't end up coming back, we learn the reason for this is because he found a restaurant and at the restaurant Jyou is being forced to work to pay off his debt because he did not have the right kind of money to pay for his mean, so Yamato decides to help him out to get the job done a lot faster, but the owner of the restaurant is a bad digimon how keeps adding time to Jyous payment for every mess up he has and most of the mess ups are not his fault but the owner making it seem like it is so he can have a free worker. Eventually Taichi and Tokaru show up and dissolve the situation. Then they get another beep on their digivice and this leads them to Mimi who is being treated like a princess by tadpole and frog digimon because she is the only person who can wake up the master of their house with her beautiful singing. Also we find out that koushrio and tentomaon were captured by a bad digimon and held in a sort of alter dimension where he takes a way kosherus wanting of knowledge which leaves him heartless until tentamon snaps him out of it and is finally able to achieve his super evolution. Then we find out that sora and that her piyomon are tracking down Vamdemon the new enemy this time, she decides to stay away from the group because she feels she is inadequate and doesn't know how to love others, but soon the group lets her know that this is not true and they all team up again. Then we learn of a new DigiDestined in Japan and that Vamdemon has set his sights on conquering earth and killing the 8th DigiDestined. So the DigiDestined with the help of augomon and palmon end up sneaking in to Vamdemon's castle to use the doorway that he did to get to the real world, they fight there hardest to do so but are held off by Vamdemon's minions. So they go back outside and contact gennai and he tells them to come to his house so he can give them info about how to open the door again. They eventually get to his house and he gives them cards like the ones Vamdemon used to open the portal. They go back to the castle and just as it is about to crumble down and seal the door they make it through just in time. So then on earth they set out to find the 8th child before Vamdemon does. After a lot of searching and a wild goose chase they eventually figure out that Hikari taichis sister was suppose to go with them on their trip, but she couldn't because she got sick before they headed out and had to stay home. So after a lot of battling on earth and finding out that one of vamedmons minions is actually Hikari's digimon partner they end up beating vandemon and defeating him, but then they realize that the digital world is in even more shambles because of their absence. Upon returning the digital world with Hikari this time they find out about the four dark master digimon, who turns out to be the ones responsible for the entire fiasco since the beginning. Once they finally defeat the last dark master and learn that they didn't really need the crests to begin with they were just something to help the destined ones know of their own true potential, they have a tearful farewell with their digimon and vow to meet again sometime in the future.

-For the story I felt it was a bit like other anime with the going around fighting a new monster (of the week so to speak), but the story does develop quite a bit throughout, giving good backgrounds for each character and villain and there are some really good serious moments and some pretty funny ones 7.8/10

Art:

The art in digimon I liked quite a bit it was not really plain at all, the back grounds were nice many different ones, though at times we would see the group in the same place for a while such as a forest or a desert, but I felt the scenery flowed nicely. The character designs were nice each one having their own unique look and the digimon were cool looking as well such as cute little creatures all the way to huge fierce looking beasts. One thing I did find slightly bad in the art department in the earlier episodes it would seem like a character would disappear for a millisecond and then reaper or at one point pioyomon was eating and when she turned her head they drew two beaks on her for some reason, but these fuck ups were tiny and hardly noticeable unless you are really looking for them.

Sound:

For the language I chose Japanese with English subs, I felt the voice actors for both the humans and the digimon were spot on and fit them perfectly, but on the other hand I really did not care for the theme song or the end credits song, I am sort of a fan of J-pop but I felt theses songs were skipable. The sound effects were ok not too rememberable though and the transformation music was good, but no where needed to be used almost every single time the digimon evolved.
-So I'll give this two scores one for the voice acting witch receives a 10/10 and one for the music/background sounds which gets a 3/10

Over all I felt that digimon was a really good watch, If you liked it back in the day on Saturday mornings as a kid and you are an anime fan today I feel you will probably really enjoy watching it cause the english dub like so so so many English dubs make it for kids where as the true Japanese yes had its funny moments it was very serious at times. 8.5/10

Random stuff to say:

It starts off slow for about the 1st ten or so episodes with the kids and there digimon traveling along and encountering a good digimon turned bad by the power of these black gear type things that the evil digimon is using to try to take over the digital world, so the kids battle with the infected digimon and destroy the gear and then the good digimon turned bad is good again and helps the kids out in one way or another. Also the 1st few episodes was essentially something bad happening to one of the kids and there digimon being pushed past there limits and evolving to help the kid out. A lot of people will compare digimon to pokemon for the stuff like it being mon and the fact the digimon evolve and they are cute monsters(well most are cute) that are used to battle, but that is pretty much were the similarities end especially since pokemon can only say their own name and digimon can talk fluently in human speech also when a digimon evolves they can transform back to an earlier form of there evolutionary state unlike a pokemon who can't devolve, I would compare a digimons evolution to more of a power up such as goku turning super sayin or luffy using one of his power ups, especial since the digimon usually needs to be at full power to be able to pull off their evolution. Digimon was said to be somewhat created off the tamagatchi (virtual pet).One thing I found slightly annoying at times was that it seemed like the animators felt that they had to show the digimons transformation scene at least three times an episode, while I thought it was very cool to see it happen the 1st time and it was neat whenever a digimon was finally able to evolve in to a higher form after much soul searching, I felt it was very very unnecessary to show it almost every time one of the kids digimon evolved. So yea this is my new section called Random stuff to say its random lol’s
